Dover castle is one of the largest castles in the UK. You can view it from miles away on the sea on a clear day.

The first fortifications where made by the Anglo-Saxons. William of Normandy strengthened these fortifications in 1066. Most of what is visible now stems from an extensive rebuild by Henry II in 1180.
